General Santos City – The Bangsamoro Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and Polloc Freeport and Economic Zone (PFEZ) successfully conducted a work and financial planning and management workshop for the fiscal year 2024.
The three-day workshop aims at reviewing the vision, mission, and goals of BEZA; and setting the strategic directions for 2024-2025.
In his message, BEZA Executive Director Atty. Sukarno A. Abas emphasized the importance of a clear working relationship between BEZA and PFEZ and hoped that through the said workshop, the roles, and functions between the two agencies would be streamlined and harmonized based on the existing legal mandates.
He further stressed that BEZA, being the BARMM sole authorized agency directed on the development and management of the economic zone including industrial estates, free ports, and the likes, is in-charge in the supervision of the day-to-day operation of economic zones like the PFEZ. Hence, it is imperative that operations of the economic zones like the PFEZ should be aligned with the mandates of BEZA.
The participants reviewed the existing vision and mission and its alignment with the agency’s current development thrusts and priorities. Further, defining the core values and strategic goals of the organization through employing environmental scanning, SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats), and TOWS (Threats, Opportunities, Weakness, and Strength) analysis.
With the guidance of Mr. Datu Abdelwin Sangkula as the workshop facilitator, the approved FY2024 plans and programs of BEZA and PFEZ were also assessed and ensured its alignment to the identified strategic goals of the organization. Challenges and issues of the organization as well as how they will be addressed were also identified.
Wrapping up the workshop, Chief Mohaliden M. Mohammad of the Policy and Planning Division expressed his appreciation to all the participants in the said workshop.
“A week before this activity, we sent out a template to each division and section for the compilation of their accomplishment report and assessment for the situational analysis. First, we need to evaluate the current situation of each agency (BEZA and PFEZ). By doing that, we can visualize when we can start the strategic planning and it was successfully done. Alhamdulillah, we were able to draft a good result” he added.
Moreover, the participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to construct a plan with the office. The office believes that it is an important process for agencies to define their next step and make informed decisions in the future.
Further, in his closing remarks, PFEZ Deputy Administrator Mohammad Abdulatif B. Abdullah extended his gratitude to the BEZA family for inviting PFEZ to this successful activity and looking forward to a more fruitful collaboration in the future.
Ultimately, the workshop serves as a catalyst for professional development, employee engagement, and the long-term sustainability of organizations, positioning them strategically for success in the dynamic activities and programs of the fiscal year 2024.
Meanwhile, the plan will be presented to the BEZA Board of Directors for the approval of the BEZA 2-year strategic goals, objective, and strategic interventions for 2024-2025 aligned to the revised vision and mission.
