BEZA Executive Director Atty. Sukarno A. Abas was invited to an interview conducted by the Ministry of Finance, and Budget and Management (MFBM). The interview will form part of the MFBM project for Capacity Building on Investment Promotion and Facilitation in Bangsamoro.

The objective of the interview was to gather inputs from the investment-related agencies such as BEZA, aiming to know the scope of investment programs, vision, measures, and tax investment incentives existing or administered by the agency.

Atty. Abas addressed the queries that are concerned with setting the policies on the establishment and operations of the economic zones in the BARMM. Part of his responses was laying down the role of BEZA on the revenue generations for BARMM through its programs on economic zone development and enterprise development that will have significant contribution to the attainment of the overall BARMM investment agenda. He also shared the challenges confronting BEZA in terms of policy support and institutional building which hampered the agency to operate efficiently. Further, he sought support on the on-going crafting of the BEZA bill that aims to provide a comprehensive legal framework and mechanism for the creation, operation, administration, and coordination of special economic zones in BARMM.

The interview was facilitated by MFBM Director Amirah Pendatun with their consultant Mr. Ronn Astillas of Asian Development Bank.

Meanwhile, this interview was part of MFBM’s preliminary alignment session with key investment agencies in partnership with Asian Development Bank and various BARMM investment-related agencies.
