The Bangsamoro Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), led by the OIC Executive Director Atty. Sukarno A. Abas, and in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Board of Investments, represented by its Chairperson Mohamad Omar Pasigan and its Governor Datu Habib Ambolodto, actively participated in the 9th World Freezone Organization Annual International Conference and Exhibit in Dubai, UAE, from May 1-3, 2023. The conference’s theme was “Global Trade 2.0: Zones, An Ecosystem of Trust Driving Prosperity.”
During the conference, BEZA had the opportunity to network with various representatives from Special Economic Zones and corporations, such as the Head of Dubai Ecozone Council, Industrial City Corporations in Iraq, Africa Economic Zones Organization, The Commerical Office of Taipei (Taiwan) based in Dubai, Moscow Special Economic Zone. This enabled BEZA to discuss the best practices of economic zones and to invite investors to explore the potential of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The conference emphasized the importance of building and sustaining trust among all stakeholders with authenticity, transparency, and reliability, which is a critical component in the success of free trade zones. Trust is a capital that promotes efficiency and fosters innovation and creativity. It also highlighted the significance of intangible capital, including intellectual, structural, cultural, and relationship capital, as they contribute significantly to the operation of economic zones.
The conference recognized the value of data analysis in assessing economic market trends to aid decision-making, including collaboration with different government agencies and private companies. It is equally important to encourage potential entrepreneurs to leverage economic zones and the available incentives to ignite economic growth. By replicating the statement “Bring Dubai to the world and bring the world to Dubai” with trust and building blocks of success in the economic zones, BEZA aims to showcase the potential of BARMM to the world and bring economic growth to the region.
